October is LGBTQIA+ History Month, and this year’s theme—“Activism and Social Change”—feels especially urgent in today’s climate. Across the country, LGBTQIA+ safety, rights, and freedoms are being challenged. Transgender communities, in particular, are facing targeted attacks from political movements like Project 2025 and even concerning rhetoric from agencies such as the FBI, which has considered labeling trans people as “nihilistic violent extremists.”
These discriminatory and dehumanizing efforts make our shared work toward equity, education, and safety more important than ever.
As part of our continued commitment to equity and inclusion, the Equity Institute invites you to join our ongoing history and education series, From Hate to Humanity.
This session, “The End of Marriage Equality and LGBTQIA+ Rights?” will be led by Roger Moreano, Senior Director of Institutional and Community Equity; this 90-minute presentation will explore:
The history of the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights
The current landscape of challenges facing these rights
How to understand and protect your rights moving forward
