Measles Monitoring & Response & Updates – YWCA Evanston/North Shore
In light of confirmed measles cases in the Chicago area, YWCA Evanston/North Shore is actively monitoring updates from local and state public health officials and is committed to keeping our community informed and safe. Measles is highly contagious and can be serious. Symptoms often begin with a fever, cough, red eyes, and runny nose, followed by a red, blotchy rash. If you’ve visited any potential public exposure places in Marion or the Chicago area between April 7–28 (noted below) and are feeling unwell, please check in with your doctor right away.
Potential Chicago area exposure locations include:
April 22–23: O’Hare Airport (especially Terminal 1), 10am–8pm
April 25: Aldi – 7235 39th St, Lyons, 10am–12:30pm
April 27: Shell – 3901 S. Harlem Ave., Stickney, 10am–12:30pm
April 28: Mobil – 2945 S. Harlem Ave., Berwyn, 10:20am–1pm
We are receiving regular updates from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and will take guidance from these public health authorities should any response be required within our buildings or programs. At this time, there have been no confirmed cases at YWCA Evanston/North Shore.
We remain in close communication with our program teams and will continue to update staff and families if any changes occur to procedures or health guidance. We ask all staff, clients, and program participants to remain alert and informed about symptoms and prevention strategies.
