Community Education and Training

YWCA Evanston/North Shore makes a concerted effort to raise awareness and educate the community about domestic violence issues. Through this work we reach out to first responders, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, health care agencies, businesses, and civic organizations to speak about the complexities and importance of the issue, offer resources that can help, and advocate for solutions to end the violence. Each presentation is specifically tailored to the audience with whom we are speaking, and concrete actions are offered as ways that people can help.

For First Responders

YWCA Evanston/North Shore staff provide training and information to first responders such as police officers, medical personnel, and social workers  so that they can recognize and screen for domestic violence and make appropriate referrals.

Legal Advocacy Program staff are available to collaborate, present, consult or provide training on the Illinois Domestic Violence Act and related laws.

For Business/Civic Groups

We provide training to professionals and business/civic groups about:

  • Dynamics of domestic violence
  • Impact on workplace and employees
  • What to do when someone you know, work with, or supervise experiences intimate partner violence
