40-hour Domestic Violence Training
Thanks for your interest in being trained to serve survivors of domestic violence!
YWCA Evanston/North Shore is an approved ICDVP training site for the 40-hour domestic violence training, which provides a solid base of knowledge for anyone working with individuals affected by domestic violence. The training covers all ICDVP required topics using a trauma informed lens.
*Virtual Training now available: The October 40-hour Domestic Violence Training will be held online via Zoom. See details below.
Please fill out the form below if you are interested! (*see the “When does the training take place?” tab for more details on the upcoming dates and times.)
Started in 1983, YWCA Evanston/North Shore’s Domestic Violence Program is the only comprehensive domestic violence program in northeastern Cook County. Our continuum of services for survivors includes:
- Crisis Intervention
- Emergency Shelter
- Community Counseling
- Children’s Counseling
- Legal Advocacy
- Longer term supportive housing
Our trainers all have years of experience, both as educators and as service providers. Where beneficial, we bring in guest trainers with more in-depth knowledge on specific topics.
The training covers all topics mandated by ICDVP:
- Dynamics of Domestic Violence
- Empowerment Counseling
- Criminal and Civil Legal Issues
- Safety Planning
- Risk Assessment
- Teen Dating Violence
- Impact of Domestic Violence on Children
- Introduction to Partner Abuse Intervention Strategies
- Connection to Mental Health and Substance Abuse
- Dynamics within LGBTQ Communities
- Elder Abuse
- Supporting People with Disabilities
- Self and Community Care
In person trainings take place at YWCA’s administrative offices:
YWCA Evanston/North Shore
Community Room 207
1215 Church Street
Evanston, IL 60201
Virtual trainings take place via Zoom
To successfully participate in these interactive trainings, participants need to have a functional computer, microphone, camera, keyboard, and WIFI.
Participants must attend all scheduled sessions in order to receive the 40-hour certificate.
The next available training is a virtual training, scheduled to take place via Zoom:
October 12th – 23rd
Training will take place from 9 am – 2 pm, Monday through Friday, with an hour long lunch break from 12 -1 pm.
Participants will need to attend all 10 sessions in order to receive the 40-hour certificate. To ensure participants are present during the training, we request that participants agree to have their cameras on at least 80% of the time, and actively participate in all polls and small group break outs. Where we notice a participant not keeping this agreement, we will follow up off-line to determine if this training is a fit.
Please note that if you are planning to become certified as an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP), this training WILL NOT qualify you for ICDVP certification. In order to receive ICDVP certification, you need to complete an ICDVP-approved 40-hour in-person DV training, complete 150 hours of supervised direct service at an ICDVP-approved supervision site, and then pass the ICDVP exam. This is probably not needed by most of you but we want you to know in case you were planning to become ICDVP certified eventually.
In person training fee:
$275 for individuals
Virtual training fee:
$175 for individuals
Please complete the form at the bottom of this page and we’ll get in touch with you. You will not be charged for the training until we have connected to make sure it’s the right fit for you and we’ve answered all your questions.
