Women’s Empowerment

YWCA Evanston/North Shore is committed to making our communities places in which women and girls can thrive. We focus on providing opportunities to become empowered, confident and competent through education, engagement and recognition.

One of the most important things we can do is support women’s economic empowerment by providing classes and workshops that help women across the life cycle develop the skills they need to build financial security and stability.

People living in poverty, who are disproportionately people of color, are the victims of many predatory financial products: payday loans, title loans, pre-paid debit cards with monthly fees and per-use fees. Access to information about alternatives is the first step in our work.

Participants in our Leadership and Economic Advancement (LEAP) Program learn about budgeting and credit, receive individual coaching to create and work through a financial plan and gain access to banking institutions who work with us. And we’re there by your side when you need employment and housing assistance too. Because when women are safe, stable and self-sufficient, their families are too. That helps our communities thrive.
