YWCA Evanston/North Shore today announced that it is one of 12 YWCA local associations nationwide that has received a grant for a high-tech job training program. The program, known as YWeb Career Academy, focuses on increasing access to digital skills, such as Web development and design, particularly for women of color.

YWeb is part a $5 million commitment by Google.org to YWCA USA, the national organization of YWCA based in Washington, D.C.  Google.org is the corporate charitable arm of Alphabet, Inc., and its subsidiary, Google.

As part of YWCA Evanston/North Shore’s ongoing mission to eliminate racism and empower women, YWeb will provide education in digital skills to traditionally underserved or vulnerable populations, such as survivors of domestic violence and low-wage workers. YWCA will couple this programming with wraparound and barrier-reduction services such as housing assistance, case management, and job coaching and placement to ensure each participant’s success.
