YWCA Evanston/North Shore to screen “On Her Shoulders” in commemoration of International Women’s Day

On Her Shoulders PromoEvanston, IL — On Thursday, March 7, YWCA Evanston/North Shore will screen the documentary “On Her Shoulders” in commemoration of International Women’s Day, which is March 8.

The screening will be held at the Wilmette Theater, 1122 Central Avenue, Wilmette, at 6:30 pm. A reception at YWCA’s Shop for Good, located at 1107 Central Avenue in Wilmette, will precede the screening. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m.

“On Her Shoulders” is a riveting film that documents the persistence of Nadia Murad, a young woman who was held prisoner by the Islamic State group in Iraq and became a human rights activist. A Nobel Peace Prize winner, Murad is dedicated to helping women and children victimized by genocide, mass atrocities, and human trafficking.

Following the film, there will be a brief discussion led by Liz Drew, director of program development at Heartland Alliance International, a human rights organization based in Chicago.
